Verify a jewelry pick by comparing the order requirement, the attached identifier, and the physical item. All three must agree. A scanner can read the label correctly while that label is on the wrong pouch; two earrings can share a front design while using different fastenings.

Start with the exact order line

Bring the order reference, product, selected option, SKU or equivalent identifier, selling unit, and quantity into the picking view. “One earring item” is not precise enough when one ordered unit means a pair. Keep different orders in separately identified trays so correct pieces cannot migrate into the wrong parcel.

Shopify Order Printer pick lists can include variant, SKU, quantity, image, and order information. Choose the fields that distinguish your products; a large image with the option omitted can be less useful than a concise exact line.

If the order changes after printing, mark the old document obsolete and use the current requirement. Do not ask the packer to remember a verbal correction beside an otherwise authoritative-looking sheet.

Use the scan as one check, not the whole check

Compare the returned record with the required variant and unit. A beep confirms that something was read, not that the right product was selected. A barcode assigned to the wrong record, copied onto the wrong pouch, or duplicated elsewhere needs investigation.

Shopify's desktop admin scanning documentation describes a search/navigation feature with early-access limitations. It is not a promise that every store has automated pick validation. Understand what your actual scanning tool does before treating a green screen as permission to pack.

Inspect the feature that distinguishes the near match

For a hypothetical order requiring clip-on earrings, suppose the pouch label resolves to the correct clip-on variant but a visible post suggests a different fastening. Stop. Do not relabel the item to make the paperwork agree, and do not assume the customer will accept the alternative because the front looks similar.

The orbital drop earrings with the Clip-On option selected show why the choice belongs in the check. Their front-view image illustrates the design; it cannot independently verify the back of a physical pair on the picking bench.

The selected orbital-earring link is the Clip-On option. A front view alone does not verify the fastening on a picked pair. View the product and current options.

Compare both earrings with the authorized reference. If the relevant feature cannot be checked without damaging or improperly opening packaging, escalate the uncertainty instead of forcing an inspection. Where the order is a set, verify its defined contents as one selling unit; do not equate the number of visible pieces with ordered quantity.

Contain a mismatch before fixing the record

Place the questioned item in an identified hold area. Record the order line, expected identity, observed difference, pouch label, location found, and person reviewing it. Check the immediately adjacent near-match stock for a swapped label, without assuming every unit is wrong.

Faire/ShipBob inventory-sending guidance is a useful marketplace reference for matching physical inventory to its identifiers. The boutique's own stop-and-review procedure must still define who can correct a label or record. Keep that correction separate from fulfilling this order.

If a verified replacement is available, restart the check with that replacement. A resolution note about the first item does not validate the second one automatically.

Record the release, not just the exception

Confirm the final item, exact option, unit count, and order tray before sealing. Note who resolved any exception and which evidence supported the decision. This makes the check repeatable without creating a promise of error-free fulfillment.

Use variant-to-photo matching to improve weak reference images upstream. Browse the earring collection by exact listing and selected option, rather than treating visual similarity as interchangeability.
