Before buying jewelry for resale, check two separate permissions: whether the supplier's terms allow your intended selling channel, and whether that platform allows the exact product and business model. A wholesale invoice or approved buying account does not answer both questions. Ready-made resale, original-design production and documented vintage goods can follow different rules, even when their photographs look similar.
Read the supplier's channel conditions
Ask whether the proposed agreement covers your own website, a physical shop, public social selling or a third-party marketplace. Identify the actual businesses and channels involved, rather than describing everything as “online.” A supplier may distinguish them.
INOX's authorized-retailer agreement, for example, restricts marketplace selling while describing an own-website route. That is one supplier's condition, not a general rule for jewelry or a Rustic Jewel Co restriction. Do not assume that a wholesale purchase permits every downstream channel.
Check the platform's product model
The platform has its own eligibility rules, separate from the supplier's willingness to sell. Etsy's reselling and dropshipping guidance distinguishes limited resale exceptions from commercially available ready-made goods and explains the role of original designs or buyer customization in production-partner arrangements.
Adding a card to an otherwise unaltered commercial necklace does not turn it into your original jewelry design. Nor does calling a vendor a production partner resolve eligibility when neither the seller's original design nor qualifying buyer customization is involved. Review the relevant current standards for the actual product.
Compare three fictional buying cases
These hypothetical cases illustrate questions to resolve. They are not approvals, descriptions of RJC products or findings about a particular seller.
| Proposed purchase and sale | Supplier question | Platform question |
|---|---|---|
| A finished wholesale pair, resold unchanged | Does the agreement permit this exact selling channel? | Does the platform allow ready-made resale in this category? |
| A manufacturer's production of the seller's original design | Does the production and rights agreement support the proposed use? | Are original-design and production-partner requirements met? |
| An older piece proposed as vintage | What age and ownership records support the seller's description? | Does the item meet the platform's current vintage criteria and other requirements? |
Supplier permission can be confirmed while platform eligibility remains unresolved, or vice versa. Either unresolved side is a reason to pause that channel-specific buy. Do not relabel the same unsupported resale model merely to make it sound like another case.
Check the purchasing platform as well
If you buy through a wholesale marketplace, its terms can add another condition. Faire's business-type guidance restricts specified third-party resale channels. Having an independent store does not automatically permit listing Faire-purchased goods on those channels.
That is a distinction between where you buy and where you later sell. A buyer can be eligible for a wholesale account while a particular downstream plan remains incompatible with its terms. Review your actual account, supplier and order arrangements rather than borrowing another retailer's approval.
Keep product facts separate from permission

Vintage-inspired describes a design reference; it does not establish that an item meets a platform's vintage age requirement. A listing's gold-tone or stone-style wording likewise does not prove precious materials, provenance or manufacturing rights. Use documented facts for the exact item.
Once the selling route is appropriate, a truthful jewelry demonstration can communicate those facts clearly. Good presentation still cannot replace the permissions needed before offering the product.
Resolve the buying decision before committing cash
Give the supplier your intended channel and product model, and ask which terms apply. Read the platform's current eligibility, listing and disclosure requirements yourself. Where intellectual property, contracts or jurisdiction-specific law is material, obtain qualified advice rather than treating a platform account as legal clearance.
For listed Rustic Jewel Co styles, include your intended selling channel in a wholesale inquiry with exact product links and quantities. This guide does not establish RJC authorization for Etsy, Amazon, Whatnot, TikTok or another channel, or an RJC manufacturing or dropshipping program.
